I know, I usually don't write blogposts about lifestyle and all I do on here
is criticizing society and stuff like that but I thought that it's
time to like change my blog a bit. I wanted to start recommending
new, unknown and amazingly talented musicians to my almost 2000
readers on here. Just because they deserve more attention
and...because i can.
So, my
first music recommendation is Jared Evan, an independent
singer-songwriter, rapper and producer from New York. After he split
ways with his label because they didn't support his musical vision,
he started releasing music and touring on his own, without a label.
He
released the EPs The 4th Chapter and
Pieces and
started working on the collaboration projects Boom
Bap & Blues and
Boom Bap &
Blues 2 (Still Blue) with
Statik Selektah which all came out within the last 3 years. He worked
with producers like Pharrell Williams and Dr. Dre and writes and
produces songs by himself, for himself AND for other musicians such as Hoodie Allen
who is one of his closest friends and who brought him on tour.
You
can't deny that Jared, who started as a drummer, is amazingly
talented, I mean, he writes and produces his own songs and tries to
help his friend's projects out as well. But apart from that he's
such a genuine and precious person and I know that the following is
going to be really cheesy but I won't apologize for that because it's
just the way I – and many others – feel.
I
just need to tell you about it because people like Jared, who've been
through difficult times, changed their lifes and started using their
bad experiences to make other people happy by writing the most honest
songs you'll ever listen to, deserve to get attention and success.
Charlie
Brown and
Falling Down
made
me fall in love with Jared and his music because I felt so
well-understood. His songs explain everything that's going on in my
head and I think I'm never going to be able to make clear to anyone
on this planet how much that means to me. I never knew how to explain
what it felt like to get bullied and how helpless you are.
Everything
I did in those situations was listening to music because music was my
therapy, music is still my way to get things off my chest. Singing
gave me strength and power and courage to go on, to give a fuck about
what other people thought about me and I just started being me again.
And Jared did the exact same thing. Music was his therapy and i guess
it still is and you can feel that. Everyone can feel that, everyone
can see that, seriously.
He's
trying to cheer us, his fans, up when we're down. He's the most
active musician on Twitter, he's tweeting us all the time, telling us
that he appreciates every single one of us and it just makes everyone
so happy. And a lot of people know the feeling when your favourite
musician answers or favs or retweets something from you, it just
makes you feel warm and cozy and you're so thankful.
His
gratefulness and love for his fans is unbelievable.
But
now, a few days ago, on June 2, 2015, Jared Evan this little piece
of...no I'm trying to be nice in this.
Okay.
Sooo. Jared Evan just pulled a Beyoncé and surprised everyone with a
FREE mixtape which everyone can download on his website
(http://jaredevan.com/theartformofwhatever.php).
He called the project The
Art Form Of Whatever
which he created from scratch in 4 days. 10 songs. In 4 days. He came
up with the idea on the flight back to New York after the European
Tour with Hoodie Allen a few weeks ago and executed it a day later.
He got help from the producer The Arcitype who produced most of the
songs and Jared also painted the actual artwork by himself.
And
now the most important question is: WHAT EVEN IS THIS GUY?
This
is what Jared said about his new project:
„I
wanted it to be a project that showed a different side of me,
something bold. So on my flight back to New York I started
conceptualizing what the project could be like. I wrote down titles
on my laptop, and one of them really stuck out to me 'The Art Form Of
Whatever'. I started geeking off of the title and then knew exactly
what I wanted it to be. I went to Boston and in literally 4 days
created 10 songs from scratch. I've never been more proud of a
project. It went from my brain to reality in the span of a few days.
I really dug inside my creative chest for this one. I even painted
the album cover myself.“
And
now I'm pretending to be a music journalist (I actually wanted to
study that at uni but oh well) and rating and explaining every song
on this album (of course I just talk about MY opinion and MY thoughts
so please don't judge me, thanks).
1.
Stella features Jared on the first track The
Art Form and
Jared shows again that he's working with the best artists in this
industry because Stella wrote the hook for this punchy rap song and
makes it even more enjoyable.
2.
Karate features
Moe Pope and all I have to say is that this song seriously is karate,
they both throw the lyrics right into your face and they both show
their listeners that they are two of the best rappers in this
industry.
3.
One of my personal faves is Signals
(„These
walls they're covered in flames, they're gonna burn down“),
it's catchy and just different and you just have to listen to it to
understand what I mean.
4.
The Art Form Of Whatever also includes the song Home
which
is one of my favourites as well just because it's so gentle and quiet
but then again it's so expressive and it just blew me away („But
my dreams will keep me company“).
5.
The song Bad
Guy kinda
reminds me a bit of Signals,
amazing hook and really interesting rap parts in between with
ironical lyrics such as „And
I'm not calling you a slut or whore, but that doesn't mean you
weren't one before“.
6.
Etch-A-Sketch is
another outstanding track on The
Art Form Of Whatever.
Jared Evan, Reks and Skyzoo rip into the uptempo and light produced
track.
7.
Sadie
(feat. MAX) is
about his little niece and the lyrics are as touching and cute as the
whole song and production itself („Oh
that's my Sadie, I never thought someone could make me feel this
love“).
8.
About his song Cookie
Dough Jared
says
„I
won't be a cookie cutter artist. My art is raw and I won't ever let
anyone mold me into anything.“ and that's all you have to know
about the song
(Just
listen to it because it's called Cookie Dough and Cookie Dough is
delicious af).
9.
Me
vs Me is
an interesting track because Jared kinda battles himself on it and
shows both, his rap skills and his amazing voice.
10.
The final track on the album is called Of
Whatever. Jared
talks about his development and the individuality of his music and
says that the industry annoys him because you always have to fit in
one genre but he doesn't want to fit in, he just wants to do his own
thing („I'm
sick of being tired, I'm tired of being sick of all these liars“).
All
I have to say about this album is that it's a masterpiece. You don't
have to be a fan of Jared but you seriously have to become a fan of
The Art Form Of Whatever (You'll become a fan of Jared after you
listened to it). People who love to figure out lyrics and love to rap
while taking a shower should definitely listen to it, everyone
else...should listen to it as well. You'll love it.
So
it took me almost 4 hours to write this blogpost but I wanted to make
it special because Jared is special to me as well. He means so much
to me and I'm glad that he always cheers me up when I'm sad and
anxious and with this blogpost I promise to support him as long as he
wants me to (not only because I got his handwriting tattooed on my
body lol) and I will always try to make him happy. I appreciate him
so much and getting to know and talking to him changed my life in a
non-creepy and non-fangirly way because special people always change
your life.
The
Art Form Of Whatever is a project which combines every EP, every
mixtape Jared has ever released but Jared seems to be more poised and
mature and watching him develop into what he is now is just an
amazing experience and I'm so excited for everything in the future.
I
hope this post wasn't too long and that you had fun reading it!
Loooooooooove,
Vivi.
